The Migration Movement is a growing network of organisations and individuals working together to build a strong and connected migration movement in the Netherlands. It started with the national Migration Weekend on 5 to 7 June, organised together with Here to Support, Human Rights Initiative, Justice & Peace, Migration Inc, OnMigration, Oxfam Novib, New Bees, Stop Wapenhandel, and Stroomversnellers. Nearly 100 participants from more than 60 organisations came together to work on a shared, progressive migration narrative, build structural influence on migration policy, and create an agile, activist movement with room for new initiatives.
Following the weekend, the group met again on 25 August in The Hague to work out concrete next steps: how to organise, what structure to adopt, and what a shared strategy could look like. A central priority throughout has been giving people with lived experience a leading role in shaping the movement.
Coders Beyond Borders takes part in this movement because we believe change works best when it’s built with the people it affects, not just for them. We’ll keep sharing updates here as the movement grows.
Our director, Ömer Yetimoglu, introduced CBB and our work building tech solutions led by and for refugees and newcomers, and invited students to volunteer with us.
